Position: Head of Charter

Location: USA

Salary: $175-200k + commission/bonus & benefits

The aim of the Head of Charter, USA is to effectively lead the day-to-day operations and growth strategy of the business, positioning the company as a market leader within the US. The individual will lead the USA trading departments in their short, medium, and long-term business strategies as well as manage the full P&L, performance manage team members, set realistic goals, report progress to the board, act as an escalation point for all customer and operator complaints, writing of complex tenders and charter contracts, along with supporting the team to win and maintain high GP generating business.


As a leader for our client, the Head of Charter will represent the company culture and brand, and lead in line with our vision and values.

Job accountabilities:

  • Work in partnership with the product leads to implement the short term and create the medium to long term strategy for the USA trading departments.

  • Implement and manage the budgets in partnership with the product leads.

  • Create, agree and manage the delivery of product GP and client number targets on an annual basis and review throughout the year.

  • Work with the People Team to implement a recruitment strategy that is In line with our growth plan, has the ability to attract key talent, and support the changing environment of the business.

  • Lead and manage the development and implementation for the new client App.

  • Support the development of a robust client and supplier care program.

  • Act as a mentor to the product leads.

  • In conjunction with the People Team, oversee the personal development plans for all team members, specifically direct reports.

  • Facilitate and lead on M&A integration

  • Ensure the quality management process is incorporated into the day-to-day trading practices of all teams.

  • Manage a team of dedicated sales people – challenge decisions, set direction, identify new client targets, and support the sales team in formulating detailed proposals as required.

  • Contract reviews ensuring that the company is kept safe, and risk is managed for every flight or charter project that is secured.

  • Support the sales team in the development of tenders for complex high-value contracts and be aware of the commercial risks and exposures that the company is being committed to as part of their responses.

  • Ensure all trading activities are recorded in the CRM system in accordance with GDPR policy.

  • Build up and maintain excellent working relationships with internal stakeholders. Key liaison for high value and sensitive client relationships.

  • Keep on top of competitor activity in the region to ensure AP remains at the top of its game.

  • Demonstrable commercial experience within the aviation industry.

  • Results-driven with evidence of a track record of delivering success.

  • Demonstrable management experience of motivating and challenging experienced, remote working and highly valued employees.

  • Motivated, enthusiastic, and results-driven with the ability to drive results through the successful performance of your teams.

  •  Proactive with a strong commercial focus.

  • Ability to present effectively and visit and entertain both clients and prospects.

  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to influence at all levels.

  • Effective numerical, analytical, and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to think on your feet and operate at a strategic level.

  • Highly approachable, adaptable, and flexible.

  • Able to persevere under tough economic market conditions and fierce competition

  • Demonstrable experience in managing complex charter arrangements.

  • Extensive experience in reviewing charter contracts, managing risk, and mitigating exposure

  • Possesses a good understanding of Air Partner’s competitors, clients, and suppliers.

  • Strong time management and organisational skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines.

  • Substantial regional travel may be required and regular international travel may be required.
