Growth without the right people is expensive

 menska insights

Growth is exciting, but it also exposes hiring gaps quickly.

Growth is usually seen as the good problem.

More clients. More aircraft. More demand. More opportunity.

But in private aviation, growth also has a habit of exposing the parts of a business that were never really built to scale. What worked when the operation was smaller can suddenly become stretched. Processes that lived in people’s heads need structure. One exceptional person covering three roles becomes a risk. A sales team that grew organically needs leadership, accountability and consistency.

This is where hiring becomes more complex.

A growing aviation business does not only need more people. It needs the right people at the right point in the journey. That might be a technical operations leader who can bring order to a busy fleet. It might be a sales leader who can build process around founder-led momentum. It might be a stronger client services hire who understands the expectations of high-net-worth clients. It might be a specialist role that did not exist in the business two years ago. That shift matters.

Aviation companies are increasingly hiring for more sophisticated roles. Commercial strategy. Revenue operations. Product thinking. Systems. CRM. Data. Technical leadership. These are not always traditional aviation hires, but they are becoming increasingly important as operators and brokerages mature.

The challenge is that many businesses only realise the gap once growth starts to hurt.

A team becomes reactive. Hiring becomes urgent. Standards become harder to maintain. The wrong person can slow everything down, especially in a market where reputation matters and service expectations are high.

Good hiring in a growth phase is not about adding headcount for the sake of it. It is about building the structure that allows the business to keep growing without losing quality.

That requires clarity. What problem is this hire solving? What does good look like? Where is the real pressure in the business? Is this a delivery problem, a leadership problem, a systems problem or a commercial problem?

The strongest businesses ask those questions early.

Because growth without the right people is not just stressful. It is expensive.
